Ahh London… Whether it’s your first day or your 10th year, the excitement and activity of this city is a thrilling onslaught. Nearly 2000 years old, these days London teems with the cultural chatter of 8.5 million people, of 270 nationalities. There are always new fun things to do in London: new restaurants to try, new venues to party in, new neighborhoods to explore.
With so many things to choose from, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Thankfully, we at Modern Playboys are extremely well-traveled and have impeccable taste! Here’s your primer guide to the most fun things to do in London.
River Boat Cruise – Delightfully touristy, a boat ride down the Thames surprisingly turned out to be one of my favorite activities while in London. You’ll see the London Eye, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the London Bridge, and more, all while sitting down! The tour-guide managed to be both informative and hilarious, though he did quite forcefully “ask” for tips at the end.
Oxford and Spitalfields – High-rollers looking for designer outlets to supplement their clubbing game should check out Oxford Street. For the rare, cheap finds of charm, Spitalfields Market is great to get lost in. Weave your way through antiques, art studios, secondhand clothes, foodie stalls, quirky furniture and more.
If you’ve got the cash:
Hawksmoor Seven Dials – Great if you’re hankering for a big slab of meat.
Dinings – Think Japanese Tapas. Small portions, large prices, still worth it.
For cheaper fares:
Dishoom – #1 on the Yelp Top 100 Eateries list two years in a row.
Berber & Q – Middle Eastern grill house nestled under a railway arch. Nightclub vibes and food to die for.
London is full of beautiful parks to escape to when all the noise and concrete starts to drive you crazy. It’s legal to drink in them too!
Hampstead Heath – 3 open-air public swimming pools, woods, ponds, and lakeside concerts in the summer.
Regents Park – Home to the Open Air Theatre, the London Zoo, and some classy villas.
London’s club scene is as diverse as its population – there’s something for everyone, depending on what you’re looking for.
XOYO – For top-quality, big name DJs, a fantastic sound system and cheap drinks.
Fabric – A 17-year-old London institution. Be wary of the queue and the cover charge.
If you’re only going to be in London for a few days, it’s best to resign yourself early: you won’t see everything. Because there’s so much to see, London is a great city to get lost in. You’ll always find something cool to do around the corner.
This is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to fun things to do in London, so stay tuned for more articles on this amazing city. Just make sure you’re looking the right way when crossing the street!
