How to Become More Confident

Confidence and success are acquired by a series of stressful events and your ability to handle them. You can train yourself to be confident by identifying such situations and learning how to cope with them. Give up on the idea that you are in control of everything- you can only control your own actions. Focus on what you are feeling and harness your emotions to learn how to be comfortable in your own skin. Take a look at these tips on how to build confidence:

Know Your Boundaries – Never be afraid to admit you can’t do something you really can’t do. Pretending to know everything is the biggest mistake you can ever make. It can easily backfire and make you look very foolish. Building confidence is about knowing what you’re good at but most importantly knowing what you need to work on and being positive about it.

Set Realistic Expectations – Setting realistic expectations is a major confidence booster. If you set unrealistic expectations for yourself chances are you will not reach them. You will lose confidence because you will think you are not capable when the real mistake was not being realistic. Set expectations, forgive yourself for your mistakes and take everything as a learning experience.

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others – This is a cornerstone on building confidence. There will always be someone who is more handsome, with more money, with a bigger car and a better life. But that is not your problem! You are your own measuring stick. We live in a world full of celebrities that make you feel like you are not good enough. Remember your only goal today is to be better than the person you were yesterday and that’s it.

Give Yourself Credit When It’s Due – It’s not all about knowing when you are wrong or what you need to work on. Deep down inside you know when you’re good at something. If you know you are good at sports, art, music, numbers or anything don’t be afraid to say so. Just make sure the facts back up the statement!

The secret on how to be confident is not very complicated: identify strengths and work on weaknesses. Simple. Forget about trying to pretend to be someone you are not and don’t settle for low self-esteem. The stars are the limit, but to get there you need to work hard and bring out the best version of yourself. Confidence and success are the ultimate one-two punch, so make sure you work hard to achieve them and rewards will follow your efforts.
